Canna is a long-lived (perennial) herbaceous plant. The upright (erect) stems (1-2 m tall) are sturdy, hairless (glabrous) and green in colour. The alternatively arranged leaves consist of a stem-clasping sheath at the base and very large, spreading, leaf blade (20-60 cm long and 10-30 cm wide).
The yellow flower is asymmetrical, the sepals and petals are unequal.

Planting And Care
· Cannas do best with a good supply of water, so water the plants during the summer if the rainfall is less than 1 inch per week.
· Keep a thin layer of mulch around cannas to help retain moisture as well.
· Stake tall varieties if needed.
· As flowers fade, deadhead to promote continued flowering.
